Global Education Network PartnersBox Hill Institute (Melbourne, Australia) Institute of Technical Education (Singapore) KirkwoodCommunity College (Cedar Rapids, Iowa, U.S.A.) SAIT Polytechnic (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) The Global Education Network will recruit member institutes from the world’s six continents thereby providing students, faculty and academic partners instant access to each other and the Network’s resources regardless of the time of day or day of the year. All member institutions are not-for-profit, publicly-funded colleges specialising in two-year associate degree or diploma programs. Each member institution has built a reputation for excellence in its home country. Global Education Network OpportunitiesLinking Students A key focus for network partners is to provide opportunities for as many students as possible based on merit, not economic background. The Network and its corporate partners will provide a host of exchange and work opportunities to students. These international exchanges will expose students to the global market and give them an appreciation for its complexity while inspiring them with its potential. The Global Education Network will provide students with innovative international learning enabling them to gain experience and ultimately employment on any continent. Students will benefit from exchange programs enhanced by the global connectedness of online learning. Students will be in constant touch with each other and with faculty throughout the world—learning and benefiting from expertise on every continent. Linking Staff/Faculty The Global Education Network will be built upon the strengths of its member colleges and technical institutes, carefully selected to be part of this premier intercontinental academic service. Member schools will be selected for the strength of their faculty—faculty who understand and deliver applied, hands-on learning applicable to the international market. The Global Education Network program quality will aspire to satisfy the career aspirations of students while providing highly skilled graduates for employers. The advantages of linking students via on-line learning and international exchanges will be extended to Staff/faculty. Staff/faculty will interact constantly with peers in different nations and cultures incorporating the knowledge gained and the benefits of their worldwide experience into their courses. Linking Partners and Industry Member schools will specialise in working with employers to determine specific skill requirements in the sector. They will also design and deliver the appropriate training to graduate superbly trained individuals who bring competence and productivity to the workplace. The schools will build upon their strength in working with the industry sectors so that the benefits of the Network will accrue not just to students, but also to those who will employ them upon graduation. Nascent trends in sector growth will be identified as they happen and will be swiftly incorporated into courses thereby avoiding the lag that often occurs between business development and corresponding curriculum change. Global Education Network HistoryIn 2001 the Global Education Network was designed by Box Hill Institute in collaboration with Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary, Canada and Colorado Mountain College (CMC) in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, USA (which later withdrew due to changes in the College’s leadership team). Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA, joined the Global Education Network in 2004, and the Institute of Technical Education, Singapore, joined in 2006. The Global Education Network initially formed as a result of discussions between the three Institute/College presidents and chief executive officers, all of whom were members of an international network, the Postsecondary International Network. The Postsecondary International Network is a collegiate organisation providing networking and professional development opportunities for tertiary leaders. The Global Education Network founders saw the potential for an international organisation providing international experiences for students and for a wide variety of staff. Becoming a Member of the Global Education NetworkThe Global Education Network invites select organisations to join in linking students, faculty and employers as we set new standards in applied learning worldwide. The credentials awarded by the Network will reflect the skills required of graduates entering the global, knowledge-based economy.
