Recent projectsAustraliaPacific Technical College(AusAID)The Institute delivered two design documents in relation to the Australia Pacific Technical College during 2006. Design of the Headquarters and Country Offices: The new college will operate across four different countries (Fiji, PNG, Samoa and Vanuatu) and five different schools (Hospitality and Tourism; Health and Community Services; Automotive, Manufacturing and Construction; and Electrical. A Concept Paper was submitted on 31 August 2006. Following the Pacific Islands Forum on 24 and 25 October 2006, AusAID commissioned this final report to define the formal structure of the College Headquarters and Country Offices and the administrative framework under which they both will operate. This was completed and submitted to AusAID in December 2006. Design of the Hospitality and Tourism School: The Hospitality and Tourism Schools would be located in Fiji, Samoa and Vanuatu and involved consultation with key stakeholders in both industry and government in all three countries. In-country partners were sourced and initial memorandum of understanding established with a view to recruiting students to the targeted programs by mid-2007. The project is expected to cover a five-year period from the date of commencement. The final activity design documents were submitted to AusAID in December 2006. Box Hill Institute is now in the process of negotiating with AusAID for the implementation of the project for a period of four years delivering over 1100 graduates in Hospitality and Tourism. Initial intake of students is scheduled to occur on 1 July 2007 in Vanuatu in the field of Commercial Cookery. For further information about the APTC in general, please refer to the brochure. Adidas FootwearBox Hill Institute developed and implemented a Management Development Program for Adidas managers in five Asian countries. The program incorporated a mix of internet/print-based delivery with face-to-face delivery followed by a mentored workplace program to ensure the theory was implemented in the workplace. P.T. Freeport IndonesiaBox Hill Institute managed the development of customised curriculum and resource material for 6–1000 hours of trade training programs. Our manager lived on-site for five years and our staff visited regularly to train the Indonesian trainers who delivered the programs in Bahasa Indonesia to 2000 apprentices. Singapore Workforce Development AgencyBox Hill Institute in partnership with the Community Services and Health Training Board (Victoria, Australia) is developing a national Continuing Education and Training (CET) framework for the Community and Social Services Sector (CSS) under the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) system. The project commenced as of October 2005. Box Hill Institute will work with the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) to establish the WSQ system for the CSS sector. The outcomes for Singapore from this project are to establish work performance standards that are benchmarked to world’s best practices in 12 CSS sub sectors: infant care, childcare, after-school care, youth care and outreach services, eldercare, protection, probation and rehabilitation, disability services, therapeutic care, community development, social work and ancillary support services. The development of the CSS WSQ project will spread across a 10-month period followed by a further six months of follow-up and review. Thailand Department of Skills Development (DSD)Over a two-year period, 60 staff from the DSD came to Box Hill Institute to study a variety of programs. The focus was on the development of skills to enable DSD staff to prepare materials utilising the latest technology for the delivery of Competency Based Training.
