Employing an apprentice

There are many ways to employ an apprentice including through an Australian Workplace Agreement or Certified Agreement (or State equivalent). Contact your local Australian Apprenticeship Centre (Jobs Plus Apprenticeship Services – 9286 9691) for more information about hiring an apprentice.

You can find an apprentice by:

  • contacting Box Hill Institute as many students undertake pre-apprenticeship or taster programs in trade areas
  • contacting your local Job Services Australia provider
  • recruiting someone you know or who has been recommended
  • advertising in a newspaper or on Australian Job Search.

You can also:

  • contact your local group training provider
  • engage an Australian School-based Apprentice
  • advertise on the Indigenous Employment Service website.

If you are interested in employing an apprentice, you should read the National Code of Good Practice for Australian Apprenticeships. It explains in plain English what is involved in entering a training contract.
