Initiation

Don't be afraid. Angel's blood
is white and barely marks the page.
Nothing bad will be revealed,
all can be touched with a brush
and saved from desecration.
If the glow is too bright
you will have to turn away for
angel's blood allows no shade.

But devil's blood stains
the bed, the bandage,
the night gown, slides down-
wards in a pact with gravity.
It leaps in the veins on hot nights,
feels delicious with grief
It makes itself over with every beat.
Devil's blood splashes from your wrists,
dares you to write your name in it.
