And Yet -
And yet there is something
unfriendly
about reading poems on a screen
that a moment earlier
gave advice on
haemorrhoids
diabetes
and what President Clinton should do.
(Nobody on our screens knows
what our Prime Minister should do.)And yet here I am
a friendly poet
even though more 'friendly'
than 'poet'
copying from neat handwriting
in nice black ink
on nice lined paper
a poem of sorts
onto the unfriendly screen.And yet maybe I should give advice
to our Prime Minister
I should say 'Resign!'
or 'Apologise!'
Would he take any notice?
Do people who read these screens
take any notice?
Will haemorrhoids drop off?
Diabetes quieten down?
Will our Presidents and Prime Ministers
start to behave better?
Maybe; it's possible.And yet, I doubt it.
