What does this course involve?

If you're interested in hairdressing, beauty, fashion, or creative drawing, and you want an alternative to Year 11, this course gives you a taste of each, to help you choose a career path.

This is a Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) program. You get to learn practical, work related skills, as well as literacy, numeracy and personal development. You'll cover the four areas:

Hairdressing is a theory-based course with fun practical exercises. These exercises include learning how to care, maintain and style long hair, perform shoulder and head massage, and experience the different chemical reactions on hair. You'll learn the basic fundamentals in hairdressing, including hair analysis, hair structure, and basic hair styling techniques.

Beauty explores designing and applying make-up, as well as retail and communication with clients. You'll do practical exercises like cleansing and preparing the skin, and analysing and planning the design of make-up for yourself and other members of the class.

Fashion explores a number of basic techniques involved in the construction and finishing of garments, and fabric cutting requirements. You'll get to sew complete garments while developing an awareness of fabric characteristics and handling. The aim is to gain an understanding of the end-to-end processes involved in garment production.

Creative drawings explores a range of drawing techniques and other methods of visual communication. These might include painting, collage, or small-scale sculpture. The aim is to encourage and develop creativity and personal expression as useful skills for the future.
