What does this course involve?
The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) program provides an alternative way of achieving a Year 11 qualification. The course is full time and includes study in literacy, numeracy, personal development and work related skills.
As part of the VCAL certificate, you will be required to undertake an industry-based strand; this is incorporated into the Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship).
If you successfully complete this course, you will be eligible for a VCAL Intermediate Certificate and the Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship).
This certificate provides you with the basic knowledge and skills required to work in the building construction industry such as how to communicate effectively within the workplace and how to adhere to the basic health and safety requirements.
You’ll gain an understanding of building structures, how to handle carpentry hand and power tools, and learn about various types of framing.
The qualification is highly sought after by employers of apprentices. A large amount of the training is practical and you’ll work on a number of building related projects.
