What does this course involve?
If you’re a school leaver, or an adult looking for a career in the automotive industry, this pre-vocational course is designed for you. It will give you basic skills in light vehicle servicing and maintenance, so you have an advantage when looking for an automotive apprenticeship.
You will learn how to inspect and service engines and cooling systems, test and service batteries and carry out repairs to single electrical circuits.
You will also inspect and service manual and automatic transmissions and learn how to perform manual production and oxy-acetylene welding.

What further study options will I have?
You may choose to continue onto a Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology - Light Vehicle in conjunction with an automotive apprenticeship.

- You must be 15 years or over (or mature age)
- You must have at least a Year 10 level literacy and numeracy

Will my previous experience or study count?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) takes into account the knowledge and skills you’ve already gained through your previous education and work. This may be through formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work experience, and can earn you credit if relevant to your chosen course.
