What does this course involve?
This course builds on existing traditional and electronic ability, while developing skills and knowledge of digital design and production for print, video, animation, sound, illustration and interactive material.
The need to develop skills in digital ideation and production reflects technological change in the multimedia and design industries.
Entrance requirements
Successful completion of Certificate IV in Multimedia.
English Language Proficiency
A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic).
A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.
Special admission requirements
Applicants must have successfully completed an approved art, design or media course at a post VCE or Year 12 equivalent and/or have relevant industry experience. Applicants will be required to present a folio and/or attend an interview.
Cost
Aus $9,500 per year

Course Structure
Students may study one of two streams: Animation or Interactive Graphic Design. Units and study areas are tailored in each stream to reflect skill acquisition related to employment with the industry or further study.

Common Units
CUEOHS1A – Implement workplace health, safety and security procedures - (10 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide information about occupational health and safety policies and practices, and hazard and risk control in the workplace, to the work group. It covers a range of industry contexts involving a variety of different conditions and hazards. It also describes occupational health and safety competencies applicable for employees with supervisory responsibilities.
CUFADM01A – Prepare a proposal - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare a proposal, formal tender or submission document for a project.
CUFADM02A – Address copyright - (20 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to protect creative work and performance from unauthorised use.
CUFIMA06A – Develop and implement visual effects designs - (100 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to interpret the creative brief, develop and implement visual effects designs for any production in the cultural industries.
CUFMEM04A – Test a multimedia product - (40 hours)
This unit refers to the ability to develop a strategy for testing and to conduct the test of a multimedia product within the cultural industries.
CUFMEM06A – Design a multimedia product - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for analysing the requirements and developing the design of a multimedia project within the cultural industries.
CUFMEM10A – Design and create a multimedia interface - (70 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge to design and create the graphical user interface (GUI) for a multimedia product within the cultural industries.
CUFMEM11A – Design the navigation for a multimedia product - (70 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to design the navigation for a multimedia product.
CUFPOP09A – Conduct a briefing - (30 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a briefing prior to the filming or taping of a film or television production. Briefings may be provided to any personnel, cast/performers, crew, ancillary service providers, audiences or the general public.
CUFRAD02A – Develop and implement designs - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to interpret the creative brief, develop and implement designs for any product used in the film, television, radio and multimedia productions.
CUSADM04A – Manage a major project - (35 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage complex, large and multiple or diverse projects within the multimedia industry.
THHGLE12A – Develop and manage marketing strategies - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage the marketing function for an organisation or a project.
Animation Stream
CUFANM01A – Develop and implement designs for animation - (40 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to interpret the creative brief, develop and implement animation designs for productions.
CUFANM02A – Co-ordinate the production of animation - (40 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to interpret the design for animation and supervise the production of animation elements for productions.
CUFRAD01A – Originate and develop the concept - (60 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to originate a project in the cultural industry and develop the concept to the stage where it becomes the basis of a creative and effective production.
Interactive Graphic Design
CUFIMA07A – Create titles for screen productions - (30 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to interpret the creative brief and develop and create titles for productions within the cultural industries.
CUFMEM09A – Apply principles of game design to a multimedia product - (30 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to incorporate the principles of game design, including planning and designing a game, into the development of a multimedia product for use within the cultural industries.
CUSADM07A – Establish and maintain work and contractual relationships - (70 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to set up and maintain work relationships,including contracts, within a cultural industries context. It focuses on the relationship building and negotiation skills required by project managers, freelance workers and managers of sections or departments in the industry.
ICPMM61DA – Prepare multimedia for different platforms - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare multimedia for different platforms for use within the cultural industries.
