If you’ve got an interest in multimedia design, this course will provide you with the essential skills and knowledge to find entry-level work in the multimedia industry.
Gain an understanding of the industry, as well as learn how to produce digital images, 2D digital animation and 3D digital models and images.
You’ll learn how to script languages to author multimedia, manage assets and applying visual design and communication principals to products.
You can choose to specialise in interactive graphic design, where you’ll study non-linear editing systems, learn how to prepare text and graphic files for print and create web pages.
You can also undertake studies in animation, where you’ll learn how to create 3D digital animation, produce various drawings and present your ideas.
This course is also available to international students.

- You must have successfully completed Year 12 of education, or equivalent
- Alternative entry is available if you can demonstrate aptitude or potential through presentation of work and knowledge of the multimedia design industry
How do I apply?
- To apply for a full time position in this course you must use the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process. Details of the VTAC application process are at www.vtac.edu.au and in the VTAC Guide, which is available from leading newsagents and libraries from August. If the Institute still has vacancies after the VTAC places have been offered, you will be able to apply directly to the Institute.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to access, increase and update knowledge of the multimedia industry, including the role of different industry sectors, and the impacts of changing technology.
CUFIMA01A – Produce and manipulate digital images - (20 hours)
This unit is combined with others into Digital Studio. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to produce and manipulate digital images for a multimedia production within the deign industries.
CUFIMA03A – Create 2D digital animation - (35 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use digital animation techniques and industry standard software to create 2D animation for a range of media applications within the multimedia industries.
CUFIMA05A – Create 3D digital models and images - (75 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to create 3D digital models and images for a range of media applications within the cultural industries.
CUFMEM02A – Author a multimedia product - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required in authoring a complete multimedia product using an industry standard authoring tool for productions with the cultural industries.
CUFMEM03A – Integrate and use a scripting language in authoring a multimedia product - (60 hours)
This unit describes the skills required to integrate and use scripting language in authoring a multimedia product within the cultural industries.
CUFMEM05A – Manage multimedia assets - (40 hours)
This unit covers the ability to undertake all the formal procedures related to systems for documenting a multimedia project within the cultural industries in including setting up the conventions for file naming, sourcing, sorting and storing material, and recording project details.
CUFMEM07A – Apply principles of visual design and communication to the development of a multimedia product - (40 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to incorporate the principles of visual design and communication into the development of multimedia products for use within the multimedia industry.
CUFSAF01A – Follow health, safety and security procedures - (15 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge which everyone in the workplace must have in order to work safely. It covers a range of industry contexts involving a variety of different conditions and hazards.
CUFWRT07A – Write an interactive sequence for multimedia - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge to create, develop and write an interactive sequence for multimedia productions within the multimedia industries.
CUSGEN03A – Collaborate with colleagues in planning and producing a project - (35 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to collaborate intensively with colleagues, particularly where they have different areas of expertise and are required to work with other specialists in developing and finalising a production.
CUSRAD02A – Conduct research - (35 hours)
This unit describes the skills & knowledge required to research the information needed to support the development of a production.
CUVCOR09A – Select and apply drawing techniques and media to represent and communicate the concept - (80 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop drawings which represent and communicate the concept.
Interactive Graphic Design Stream
CUFEDT05A – Operate a non-linear editing system - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use a non-linear editing system for the editing of digital media for any screen based production. Film and/or video may have been used in the production phase and digitised for the editing process.
CUVCRS16A – Prepare text and graphics files for print processing - (50 hours)
This unit is combined with others into Graphic Design Studio. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare electronic files for pre-press processing. It applies to files that still require some processing before printing or electronic diffusion.
CUVDES04A – Integrate colour theory and design processes in response to a brief - (30 hours)
This unit is combined with others into Graphic Design Studio. Provides students with the skills and knowledge to explore and integrate colour theory and design processes using 2D and/or 3D space.
ICAITU126A – Use advanced features of computer applications - (40 hours)
This unit defines the competency required to use computer applications to their full capacity, employing all advanced features as required for productions within the multimedia industries.
