What does this course involve?
This course will give you a broad understanding of the refrigeration and airconditioning industries so you can work with refrigeration and various cooling devices. You’ll gain an understanding of the legal requirements and occupational health and safety protocols in an engineering environment.
You’ll learn how to use the hand and power tools essential to the trade, and the electrical and gas equipment necessary to safely carry out your responsibilities.
You will progress to learning how to identify and handle various refrigerants and service and repair cooling systems.
What employment opportunities will I have?
You may gain employment in the refrigeration and air conditioning industries as a licensed refrigeration mechanic.

Can I apply?
- You must be at least 15 years old (or mature age)
- You must have previously registered with an Australian Apprenticeship Centre
- You must have a training contract with an employer
- Industry gives preference to those students who have completed Year 11 and show an ability to cope with mathematics and science

How will I be selected for this course?
Length of course
Part time 3 years (1 day per week) with the 4th year spent entirely on the job. You’ll attend TAFE in 1 week blocks out of 8, or at 1 day a week for 40 weeks.
