What does this course involve?
If you want to immerse yourself in the world of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Cultural Arts, this course gives you hands-on, conceptual and practical skills using a broad range of art and design activities.
You’ll develop an understanding of the design and creative thinking processes, learn how to communicate your concepts through drawings and gain skills in designing two and three dimensional work. You will also use a variety of media in painting and illustration.
As the local cultural knowledge necessary to achieve some of the units of competency in this qualification may only be accessible to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people, BHI will be working closely with the Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place (MMIGP) to ensure that you get the opportunity to work with the local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.
You will study two units of competency at MMIGP to develop an understanding of ATSI identity and ATSI cultural arts, and also learn to address IP protection requirements. You’ll learn strategies for developing art practice skills, develop technical and conceptual skills and learn how to develop your own voice. You’ll also learn how to establish and promote a business. You will work on a major project, determined in consultation with conveners from MMIGP.
