Government-funded TAFE courses (Victorian residents)The following information is applicable to Victorian residents enrolled in government-funded TAFE courses only. This includes mainstream courses, pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships, traineeships, Growth and Pathways (GAP), VCE and VCAL enrolments. To enrol in a government-funded TAFE course, students must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia, and living in Victoria for the duration of study. What will it cost to enrol in a government-funded TAFE course?At enrolment you will be required to pay: - Tuition fee
- Service and amenity fee
- Materials fee (in some instances), some of which may be subject to GST.
Book lists may be issued in addition to these charges. Some courses may also have specific requirements (for example, a uniform or tools). For some courses, an additional fee may be charged for materials retained by students. Details of these fees, should they apply, will be available from the relevant Teaching Centre prior to enrolment. These fees are subject to GST. Tuition contribution feeThe tuition contribution fee is prescribed by The Ministerial Directive on Fees and Charges. The rate for 2008 is $1.37 per nominal unit hour. For students in 2008, the maximum annual tuition contribution fee a student can pay is $877.00 and the minimum is $55.00. These rates apply to all enrolments for government-funded students classified as 'FeeCap 1' students. (FeeCap 1 students are either all new students, or re-enrolling students who commenced their course in 1st half of 2007 - i.e. prior to 30th June 2007). For students classified as 'FeeCap 2' (FeeCap 2 students are re-enrolling students that commenced their course in the 2nd half of 2007 - i.e. on or after 30th June 2007), will pay the 2007 fee rates for all semester 1 2008 units (i.e. $1.34 per hour up to a max of $860), and the 2008 rates for all semester 2 2008 units. Full year units (semester 3 units) will have their hours apportioned 50% between the two rates. Service and amenity feeThe service and amenity fee is a compulsory fee, charged by Box Hill Institute - it entitles all students to a range of services. Funds are used to provide services of direct benefit to students. For students in 2008, the fee is charged at $72.00 per year for full-time students and $52.00 per year for part-time students. Materials feeThe course teaching materials fee covers materials that are necessary to the teaching of the course and supplied to the students by the Institute, and are consumed or transformed by students during the course for the purpose of the course. The details of this cost appropriate to your specific course will be provided with the pre-enrolment course information. Retained course items are items provided to students, which are bought or leased and become the property of students. They attract GST. Tuition fee concessionIn 2008, the $55.00 minimum tuition contribution fee applies to all students who are either holders of (or listed as a dependant on) a valid Commonwealth Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card, or Veterans Gold Card, and Indigenous students. If you consider you are eligible for a fee reduction you must present your valid card/proof at enrolment. Fee payment methodPayment of your initial enrolment, in a calendar year, must be made at the time of enrolment. Where possible, you will be advised of the amount of payment prior to enrolment. Note: Your place in the course is not confirmed until fees have been paid. Fee-for-service coursesFee-for-service places in a course are places that do not attract any government funding for the delivery of the course. If you are enrolled in a fee-for-service (full-fee paying) place in a course, you will be charged a rate of full-cost recovery, based on the appropriate number of hours, and the nature of the course. Off-campus/correspondence coursesVictorian residentsIf you are a Victorian resident, that is an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia who will be residing in Victoria for the duration of your study, and are enrolling in a government-funded TAFE course, in 2008 it will cost: - Service and amenity fee of $52.00

Short coursesShort course fees vary according to the type of course; the fees are charged on a fee-for-service basis, and are disclosed in the course information for short courses. Degree coursesBox Hill Institute is an approved Higher Education Provider. If you are enrolling in a degree course you will be charged a course fee on full cost recovery basis. This includes enrolments in bachelor and associate degree courses. FEE-HELPIf you are an Australian citizen or Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder, you may be eligible for Commonwealth assistance through FEE-HELP. FEE-HELP entitles students to defer all or part of their course fees. An additional 20% loan fee applies, and repayment of the deferred fee is through the Australian taxation system once your income goes above the designated threshold ($39,825 in 2008). Tuition AssuranceIf Box Hill Institute ceases to provide a course of study, ACPET will send a student enrolled in the course of study a Written Tuition Assurance Offer (the Offer) advising the student of the options available under the tuition assurance requirements. The Offer will include directions that the student must follow in order to notify ACPET of the choice they have made for each affected subject. ACPET will provide this Offer within twenty Business Days after it knows, or should know by reasonable enquiries that Box Hill Institute has ceased to provide the course of study.
