What does this course involve?

This course provides you with practical training to build and manage network systems in a business environment.

The course involves systems administration training and will introduce you to networking concepts such as Microsoft and Linux operating systems, A+ curriculum (hardware), system testing, security, project management, databases and programming.

You will learn how to install and manage complex networks, build internet infrastructure and manage system security.

This course will also teach you how to prepare disaster recovery and contingency plans, translate business needs into technical requirements and manage complex projects.

If you successfully complete the second year, you will receive both the Diploma of Information Technology (Networking) and Diploma of Information Technology (System Administration) qualifications.

Industry standard vendor qualifications in Microsoft (MCP) and Cisco (CCNA) are also available as part of this course.

This course is also available to international students.

What further study options will I have?

You may wish to progress into the Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Network Security), Associate Degree in Computer Systems (Networking) and the Bachelor of Computer Systems (Networking).

  • You must have successfully completed Year 12 (VCE) of education, or equivalent (or mature age appropriate experience)

How do I apply?

  • To apply for a full time position in this course you must use the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process. Details of the VTAC application process are at www.vtac.edu.au and in the VTAC Guide, which is available from leading newsagents and libraries from August. If the Institute still has vacancies after the VTAC places have been offered, you will be able to apply directly to the Institute.

Length of course

Full time - 2 years
Part time available, selected units are available for evening study, other units may be studied during the day. Duration for part time study will vary depending on the number of units enrolled in simultaneously per semester

This may be through formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work experience, and can earn you credit if relevant to your chosen course.
