What does this course involve?

Develop your chances of gaining employment in the fast-growing tourism and events industry with this dual qualification in events and hospitality management.

You’ll learn how to deliver a successful event – from developing concepts, selecting venues, creating proposals, managing contracts and much more.

As well as organising your own major event, you’ll also get to work behind the scenes at some of Melbourne's major events and festivals.

You’ll also gain practical skills in food and beverage services, learn how to responsibly service alcohol and follow workplace hygiene procedures.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course may provide you with event management opportunities in:

  • large government bodies responsible for national and international events
  • smaller government and special interest associations responsible for events such as the Melbourne International Comedy Festival
  • small to mid-sized organisations responsible for corporate and social functions

What further study options will I have?

You may choose to progress into the Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management and study for an additional 6 months. You may then wish to progress into the Bachelor of Hospitality Management.

  • You must have successfully completed Year 12, or equivalent

How do I apply?

  • To apply for a full time position in this course you must use the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process. Details of the VTAC application process are at www.vtac.edu.au and in the VTAC Guide, which is available from leading newsagents and libraries from August. If the Institute still has vacancies after the VTAC places have been offered, you will be able to apply directly to the Institute.
