What does this course involve?

As you read this information, please note that this course is going to be re-accredited in the coming future.
This course provides you with the management skills to successfully run a hospitality operation or business unit.

You will learn how to develop and implement business plans, develop and manage marketing strategies, manage finances and ensure high quality customer service at all times.

You will develop management skills, learn how to recruit, select and monitor staff and establish a safe workplace.

You will also receive the Food Safety Supervisor certificate which is required in all food venues under Victorian Food Hygiene legislation.

You also have the opportunity to increase your career prospects and win industry sponsored Dux of Course and Professional Excellence awards through Box Hill Institute.

Entrance requirements

  • Australian Year 12 or equivalent with a pass.
  • Relevant employment experience in industry will be considered.

English Language Proficiency

  • A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic).
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.

Special admission requirements

  • Successful completion of the Certificate IV in Hospitality (Supervision) is required to progress to the Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management.

Cost

$AUD9,800 per year, plus additional course levy $AUD750 and materials fee $AUD270.

It is recommended you work part time in the hospitality industry while completing this qualification.

What further study options will I have?

If you are a citizen or permanent resident of Australia and meet the selection criteria, you may have the opportunity to complete a semester of this course overseas with one of Box Hill Institute’s Global Education Network (GEN) partners - currently in the USA and Canada. You must have a strong academic record and be able to demonstrate your ability to represent Box Hill Institute in a professional manner.

You may wish to progress into the Bachelor of Hospitality Management where you will receive up to 18 credit points from the Advanced Diploma.

Course Structure

The course is delivered across four days per week for approximately twenty hours per week. Students may need to work some evenings or weekends to deliver functions/events. Students are also expected to work on projects for approximately eight hours per week.


All fees shown are in Australian dollars and do not include living or accommodation expenses. All fees quoted are the 2009 calendar year indicative fees and are correct at the time of print. In subsequent calendar years, fees may be subject to a small increase in line with annual Institute fee pricing reviews. This qualification may have prerequisites, co-requisite or bridging units from lower or higher level qualifications. For further clarification please seek advice from the Institute.
