What does this course involve?

If you want a career in hairdressing but you don’t want to do the three-year apprenticeship, this course gives you a solid grounding in the skills you’ll need to work in the industry. It can be designed to suit your needs by giving you choice of attendance days and payment plans.

The course combines theory with practical experience in a salon. It provides you with the skills necessary to work as a hairdresser, from the basics, such as how to maintain a clean, safe and efficient workplace, to how to communicate effectively in a salon environment.

When you complete this course you will be qualified to treat, cut, colour and style hair, coordinate a salon team and sell various products and services.

Entrance requirements

  • No formal education level is necessary
  • Instruction is in English, thus ability to handle written and verbal communication in English is vital.
  • Some evidence of interest and aptitude in hairdressing would be an advantage

English Language Proficiency

  • A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic).
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.

Cost

$AUD14,375 per year, plus equipment and material costs of $AUD1,900 plus amenities fees.

What employment opportunities will I have?

Hairdressers can work in a number of locations – when you graduate, you could choose to work in a salon, on a cruise ship, in film and TV, in theatre or in your own business.

What further study options will I have?

You can choose to continue your study with the Certificate IV in Hairdressing, or the Diploma of Hairdressing Salon Management.
