What does this course involve?
If you want a career in hairdressing, this is where it all starts. You will learn the theoretical and practical skills you will need to begin work in the industry.
You will learn the essentials, like maintaining a clean and efficient work environment and how to communicate effectively with those around you.
All aspects of dealing with clients are covered, from how to receive and direct bookings, to preparing clients for salon service, to shampooing and removing chemicals from their hair, performing head, neck and shoulder massage, and applying single, double and triple strand braiding. You will also learn basic business skills, how to process payments and how to sell products and services.
As a hairdressing student you will also be encouraged to participate in competitions and industry awards, such as the Victorian Hairdressing Beauty Industry Association’s Apprentice of the Year Award, where Box Hill Institute has a great reputation.
What employment opportunities will I have?
On completion of the course, you are eligible for employment at an entry level in the field of Hairdressing.

Completion of this course enables you to progress to the Certificate III in Hairdressing.
