What does this course involve?

Endorsed by the Nursing Board of Victoria, this course will provide current Division 2 Registered Nurses with the skills to administer medication within their scope.

You will learn to apply pharmacology principles to safe nursing practices. You will also learn how to administer enternal, topical, subcutaneous and intramuscular medications.

What further study options will I have?

After completing this course, you may wish to further your study in specialist nursing courses such as the Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Nursing.

Can I apply?

  • You must have basic computer skills
  • You must successfully complete the Certificate IV in Health (Nursing)
  • You must be currently registered with the Nursing Board of Victoria but not a medication administration qualification
  • If you registered as a Division 2 nurse before 1995, you must undertake the RN Div 2 Anatomy and Physiology Update for Medications course or present your results on application
  • You must demonstrate skills in literacy and numeracy by completing a VETASSESS literacy and numeracy test at a cost of around $45. To find out how to book a test, visit the Vetassess website

Will my previous experience or study count?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) takes into account the knowledge and skills you’ve already gained through your previous education and work. This may be through formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work experience, and can earn you credit if relevant to your chosen course.
