What does this course involve?

This course provides you with the ability to work as a Level 3 Childcare worker in a variety of early childhood settings.

The course has four strands to provide you with enhanced employability prospects, and prepare you for further studies at a higher level.

You will learn how to handle all aspects of administration in a child care environment and support children’s rights and safety within your duty of care.

You will develop problem solving and communication skills, and learn how to work effectively within a team.

What further study options will I have?

You may wish to progress into the Diploma of Children Services or related higher education courses.

Can I apply?

  • You must be 18 years or over (or mature age)
  • You must have a current Working with Children Check
  • You must have a current National Police Record Check
  • You must have basic computer skills
  • You must demonstrate skills in literacy and numeracy by completing a test at a cost of around $45. The next round of literacy and numeracy testing will take place at our Elgar Campus Building 3, Level 3, on Thursday, 18 December at 6:30.

How do I apply?

  • To apply for a full time position in this course you must use the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process. Details of the VTAC application process are at www.vtac.edu.au and in the VTAC Guide, which is available from leading newsagents and libraries from August. If the Institute still has vacancies after the VTAC places have been offered, you will be able to apply directly to the Institute.

Will my previous experience or study count?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) takes into account the knowledge and skills you’ve already gained through your previous education and work. This may be through formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work experience, and can earn you credit if relevant to your chosen course.
