What does this course involve?

If you want to work in the community services industry and provide services to elderly people or those with complex needs, this course is designed for you.

You will receive an introduction to aged care, disability and leisure and health work, learn how to work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers, and develop specialist communication skills.

You will learn how to plan, conduct and monitor leisure and recreational programs for clients with special needs.

You will also develop skills in assisting with recreational programs/activities and learn how to conduct recreational programs for older people.

What further study options will I have?

You may wish to progress into further social or welfare work studies such as Diploma of Lifestyle and Leisure.

Can I apply?

  • You must have a current Working with Children Check
  • You must have a current National Police Record Check
  • You must demonstrate skills in literacy and numeracy by completing a VETASSESS literacy and numeracy test at a cost of around $45. If you have already been tested within the last 12 months attach a copy of your results to your application form. The next round of testing will take place at our Elgar Campus E3.318 on Monday, 10 November, 6 - 8.30pm. To book a date for your test, go to the Vetassess website


For traineeship applicants:

  • You must have previously registered with an Australian Apprenticeship Centre
  • You must have a training contract with an employer
