What does this course involve?

In this course you will learn the skills necessary for a career in the disability sector, such as client service, advocacy and networking, and working within the legal and ethical guidelines in the field.

You will be able to gain employment in residential or community settings with people with disabilities in a direct care role.

Entrance requirements

Australian Year 12 or equivalent with a pass. Relevant senior employment experience in industry will be considered.

English Language Proficiency

A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic).
A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.

Special admission requirements

Students will be required to attend an interview or provide additional information in a placement test for assessment. Contact International Student Services for details.

Cost

Aus $9,500 per year
plus amenities and materials fees.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course may provide you with employment opportunities in residential or community settings with people with disabilities in a direct care role.

You may be able to find employment in:

  • residential services
  • employment services (training and supporting people with disabilities to work in open employment or services that act as an employer, such as supported employment services)
  • recreational services
  • adult day training services
  • advocacy services
  • respite services
  • peer support programs
  • educational facilities

What further study options will I have?

You may wish to progress into the Advanced Diploma of Disability or related degree courses (such as the Bachelor of Social Work) at a higher education organisation.
