What does this course involve?

If you want to work as a qualified fitness instructor, this course gives you the necessary skills and knowledge required in the fitness industry. The course includes both fitness and business competencies giving you the skills to work in the gym as well as in the administration of a fitness facility.

You’ll learn fitness business skills, nutrition, legal requirements, and various skills to help you work with clients in personal training, such as motivational psychology, operating fitness equipment, exercise planning, and utilising a broad range of exercise science.

As the Fitness Industry is currently looking for qualified people with the Certificate IV in Fitness from 2009 this course will be offered in conjunction with Certificate III in Fitness. If you already have a Certificate III in Fitness and require an upgrade, please contact the Institute directly for credit transfer arrangements.

If you wish to exit this course prior to completion, you may be eligible to obtain the Certificate III in Fitness if you have completed all of the required units.

What employment opportunities will I have?

After this course you can apply for registration through Kinect (incorporating VicFit) to work as a Fitness Instructor or as a Personal Trainer.

What further study options will I have?

Further study options include the Diploma of Fitness or exercise science degree programs offered at other institutions.

  • You must have the physical capability to complete the course

How do I apply?

VTAC
To apply for a full time position in this course must use the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process. Details of the VTAC application process are at www.vtac.edu.au and in the VTAC Guide, which is available from leading newsagents and libraries from August. If after the VTAC places have been offered, the Institute still has vacancies, you will be able to apply directly to the Institute.
