What does this course involve?

This course is the first stage of the one year Certificate IV in Fitness program.

If you enjoy working in a gym environment with people who are keen to improve their fitness, then this is the ideal course to get you started in the fitness industry. As it is important in this industry to obtain registration for insurance purposes, you do need to gain a qualification in order to be employed.

This course involves learning about the fitness industry with a view to working as a qualified fitness instructor. The course includes both fitness and business competencies giving you the skills to work in the gym as well as in the administration of a fitness facility. You’ll learn a range of relevant skills, such as how to operate a sport and recreation program, applying basic exercise science, and giving advice to clients on nutrition and application of basic anatomy and physiology to fitness programs.

What employment opportunities will I have?

You will be able to work in the fitness industry as a qualified fitness instructor. A fitness instructor typically plans, leads and instructs basic exercise programs and activities for aerobic conditioning, flexibility and strength for low risk clients in a gym environment.

As a student, the Institute’s Employment Service is your first port of call for advice on gaining employment in this field, and can be contacted on
1300 BOX HILL (1300 269 445).
