What does this course involve?
This program provides a stimulating and creative environment where you have the opportunity to explore a broad range of art and design activities. You gain skills and knowledge necessary to develop ideas and to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. The course encourages creative and individual thinking and the development of ideas within a broad range of materials and processes.
Entrance requirements
Australian Year 11/12 or equivalent with a pass. Relevant senior employment experience in industry will be considered.
English Language Proficiency
A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic).
A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.
Special admission requirements
Applicants should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the course and career prospects in the Fine Art, Craft and Design fields.

Full Year
BSBADM304A – Design and develop text documents - (120 hours)
This unit covers the design and development of predominantly text based documents using advanced features of document design software.
CUVCOR08A – Produce drawings to represent and communicate the concept - (60 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to produce drawings that represent and communicate the concept. The concept may relate to an object or idea and may include technical solutions for a design or work, sculptures, paintings, prints, crafted objects, design concepts, digital work etc.
Semester I
CUFSAF01B – Follow health, safety, security procedures - (15 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge which everyone in the workplace must have in order to work safely. It covers a range of industry contexts involving a variety of different conditions and hazards.
CUVCOR03A – Develop, refine and communicate concept for own work - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop, refine and communicate the concept for own work. The concept covers ideas, form and context of the work. It will cover elements relating to the development, evaluation and refinement of ideas and the communication of the development process to others.
CUVDSP11A – Research and apply techniques for illustrative work - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skill and knowledge required to research and apply techniques for application to any type of illustrative work. The focus of this unit is on general, introductory knowledge of illustrative work and its practical application. Illustrative work may be for posters, storyboards, book covers, advertisements, technical illustrations, caricature etc. Students will learn to interpret briefs for the design of illustrative work, organise resources and test design approaches in the production of work.
CUVVSP34A – Apply techniques to produce paintings - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use techniques, materials and equipment for the production of paintings and involves the general knowledge and application of basic techniques. Elements of learning covered in this unit relate to preparation and maintenance of physical resources for painting, use and testing of painting techniques, and production of paintings.
CUVVSP44A – Apply techniques to produce prints - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use techniques, materials and equipment for the production of prints. Students will learn to prepare and maintain physical resources for the production of prints, use and test printmaking techniques and produce prints.
CUVVSP50A – Apply techniques to produce sculpture - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills & knowledge required to use techniques, materials & equipment for the production of sculpture.
Semester II
CUSGEN05B – Make presentations - (35 hours)
This unit is combined with others into Ideas Studio 1. Enables students to prepare for and make effective presentations to a group of people.
CUVCOR12A – Review history and theory for application to artistic practice - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to source and review information on history and theory for application to own work. It links knowledge to artistic practice and provides for the development of underpinning skills and knowledge for all areas of arts practice based on the theory and history of arts.
CUVCRS06A – Make scale models - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to make 3–dimensional scale models in response to specifications, which may be part of a brief. The focus of this unit is on the technical skills required to make accurate scale models to design specifications. Students will learn to determine scale model requirements, organise the resources for scale model making as well as make and present scale models.
CUVDSP13A – Research and apply techniques for the design of wearable objects - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research and apply techniques for the design of wearable objects. The focus of the unit is on a general knowledge of the design techniques for wearable objects and the practical application of those techniques. Students will learn to interpret a brief for the design of a wearable object, organise the resources to help with the design process, test the design and make the object.
CUVVSP11A – Apply techniques to produce digital images - (50 hours)
Provides students with the skills and knowledge to use techniques, materials and equipment for the production of digital images.
CUVVSP35A – Produce paintings - (50 hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to produce paintings through the exploration and application of a range of techniques, tools, equipment and materials.
