What does this course involve?

This course is designed to equip you with the necessary skills for a career in interior decoration and design.

You will develop your knowledge of colour, soft furnishings, lighting and materials and finishes.

You will learn how to respond to briefs, prepare presentation drawings and use computer-aided design for two-dimensional and three-dimensional work.

This course is also available to international students.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course may provide you with employment opportunities as a:

  • assistant decoration consultant
  • assistant design consultant in specialised retail or wholesale outlets within the decoration industry and in a design consultancy
  • consultant specialising in colour, soft furnishings, furniture design, lighting, or office design.

What further study options will I have?

You may wish to articulate into the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Contemporary Arts at Deakin University and receive credits for studies already undertaken.

Can I apply?

  • You must have successfully completed Year 12 (VCE units 3 and 4), or equivalent, or have relevant industry experience
  • If you're returning to study, you should demonstrate a potential to succeed in this area of study
  • You should have a folio containing proof of basic abilities in drawing, design, planning and motivation

How do I apply?

  • To apply for a full time position in this course you must use the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process. Details of the VTAC application process are at www.vtac.edu.au and in the VTAC Guide, which is available from leading newsagents and libraries from August. If the Institute still has vacancies after the VTAC places have been offered, you will be able to apply directly to the Institute.

Will my previous experience or study count?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) takes into account the knowledge and skills you’ve already gained through your previous education and work. This may be through formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work experience, and can earn you credit if relevant to your chosen course.
