What does this course involve?

This course provides you with the essential training to work as a technical officer or laboratory technician in a range of science-based industries.

You’ll develop high-level technical skills and scientific knowledge in biotechnology (molecular biology), microbiology and chemistry.

You’ll learn how to process and interpret data, use laboratory application software, and perform a range of procedures and examinations.

You’ll also gain practical industry skills by undertaking a work placement in your final year.

This course is also available to international students.

You may wish to progress into the Bachelor of Biotechnology and Innovation at Box Hill Institute where you’ll gain credits for your diploma studies. You may also wish to progress into further studies at other institutes or universities.

  • You must have successfully completed VCE (mathematics and science - particularly biology)
  • Mature age students are also encouraged to apply

How do I apply?

  • To apply for a full time position in this course you must use the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process. Details of the VTAC application process are at www.vtac.edu.au and in the VTAC Guide, which is available from leading newsagents and libraries from August. If the Institute still has vacancies after the VTAC places have been offered, you will be able to apply directly to the Institute.
