What does this course involve?
This course is the first year of a two year course, the Diploma of Dance (Teaching and Management). Enrolment in the two year course provides a comprehensive study program that mixes dance skills (in a variety of styles), teaching techniques and small business management applications. It is ideal for those seeking a career in the studio dance teaching sector as a teacher and/or dance school director. As the full diploma course prepares students thoroughly for work readiness, applicants are strongly encouraged to complete the two years, however, students who successfully complete one year will be awarded the Certificate IV in Dance (Teaching and Management). Entrance requirements
Australian Year 12 or equivalent with a pass. Relevant senior employment experience in industry will be considered.
English Language Proficiency
A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic).
A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.
Special admission requirements
Some evidence of dance expertise - video demonstrating dance styles such as ballet and/or contemporary. Please talk on video about reasons for doing the course.
Cost
Aus $9,500 per year
plus amenities and materials fees.
What employment opportunities will I have?
Graduates are generally employed as dance teacher assistants in private studios.

What further study options will I have?
The recommended pathway for successful graduates from this course is the Diploma of Dance (Teaching and Management). Further study will be available from 2010 in the Advanced Diploma of Dance (Teaching and Management).

Course Structure
The course has a number of units of study that are designed to introduce students to the practice of teaching in dance studios, learn the principles of business management and promotion and the elements of safe dance including aspects of anatomy. The course has a series of core modules and all units must be completed to gain this qualification.
