What does this course involve?
This traineeship course will equip you with extensive skills and knowledge to be a successful library assistant or technician.
You will receive an introduction to the library and information services industry, learn how to provide quality customer service and gain essential communication skills.
You will learn how to organise and maintain print-based and electronic information, materials and equipment, provide customers with circulation services and lending enquiries, and use cataloguing tools.
This course will also teach you how to search and retrieve information from a range of databases, set-up activities and events and follow health and safety procedures.

This course may provide you with employment opportunities as a library assistant in school, university, institute, public or special libraries.
You may also find employment in information agencies, booksellers, library supply agencies and library software suppliers.

You may wish to progress into the Certificate IV, Diploma and the Advanced Diploma of Library/Information Services.

- You must have successfully completed Year 12, or equivalent (or be mature age)
- You must have basic computer skills
- You must have good written and oral communication skills
- You must have previously registered with an Australian Apprenticeship Centre
- You must have a training contract with an employer
