What does this course involve?

This is a VET in schools course for secondary VCAL and VCE students. In this course you learn the necessary scientific and computer skills to be able to work in a variety of entry-level roles in a laboratory. You learn the basic purpose and functions of a scientific laboratory and how to operate in one safely, while communicating effectively with those around you.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course is designed for laboratory assistants, testers, samplers and other personnel involved in entry level laboratory work in chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing, hospital and pathology services, mining, public health authorities and waste management. After completing this course, you will be eligible to apply for related Certificate or Diploma courses as well as degree courses if all other required subjects have been completed.

There is no specfic selection criteria but you must be a secondary VCE or VCAL student as mentioned above.

Length of course

2 years part-time. Classes will be held at the Elgar campus on Wednesday afternoons.
