What does this course involve?
With a combination of practical work experience and theory, this course provides general training for those who want to provide daily care for animals.
You will learn how to perform routine animal maintenance from hygiene to monitoring animal health to breeding procedures and nutritional requirements.
You will also develop the necessary communication and office administration skills to operate effectively in the animal care industry.
You will also undertake a four-week work placement in an animal research facility.
What employment opportunities will I have?
This course will principally provide you with the opportunity to be employed as an animal technician at an animal research or breeding facility associated with major research institutes, hospitals and universities. The course will also provide the employability skills required in other animal related industries e.g. animal welfare, animal pounds and shelters, veterinary nursing, pet shops, animal boarding facilities and captive animals.

What further study options will I have?
You may wish to progress into the Diploma of Animal Technology.
Can I apply?
- You must have a desire to care for animals
- You must have successfully completed Year 10 or equivalent (or mature age)
- You must have a current tetanus vaccination, (in the last 10 years)
- If you are employed in the animal care industry you will be given preference
- You will need to be available for an interview during November or December
