What does this course involve?
Gain the essential knowledge and skills to make you employable in the furnishing industry with this pre-apprenticeship course.
You’ll be given an introduction to the furnishing industry and the Occupational Health and Safety requirements which go with it. You’ll receive an introduction to the materials, hand and power tools and basic static wood machining.
Learn how to draw, prepare surfaces and construct projects out of manufactured board and solid timber.
You’ll also undertake an industry placement to enhance your off-the-job training and give you a further understanding of the furnishing industry.
An industry placement allows you to gain a further understanding of the industry, while enhancing the skills and knowledge you will obtain through your course.
What employment opportunities will I have?
You may be eligible for employment as a furnishing apprentice in cabinet making, furniture making, wood machining, polishing or upholstery.

What further study options will I have?
You may progress into the Certificate III in Furniture Making - Cabinet Making (Apprenticeship) or the Certificate III in Furniture Making (Apprenticeship) with study credits.
Can I apply?
- You should be able to read, comprehend and discuss printed information in English
- You must also be able to write simple statements, recognise numbers and perform basic numeric calculations
