What does this course involve?
This course is designed to give horse-enthusiasts an introduction to the equine industry to help you identify and develop your career path.
You will gain essential communication skills, learn to work effectively in the industry and receive an introduction to Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
You will develop horse riding skills, learn to monitor and care for horses, and determine nutritional requirements for standard breds or thoroughbreds.
You can undertake this course as part of your VCE and receive a study score. You will need to take an external exam (which contributes to 34 per cent of your assessment). The coursework will contribute the remainder.
What employment opportunities will I have?
This course may provide you with employment opportunities as an animal attendant, stable or stud hand, horse breeder, mounted police, veterinary nurse or coach.
You may also find employment opportunities in racing or retail.

What further study options will I have?
You may wish to progress into the Certificate III in Agriculture (Horse Breeding) or diploma level courses.
Can I apply?
- You must be studying Year 10 or Year 11 and have the approval of your school's Careers Teacher or VET Coordinator
- You must have a current tetanus vaccination

Will my previous experience or study count?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) takes into account the knowledge and skills you’ve already gained through your previous education and work.
