What does this course involve?

If you’re an adult wanting to learn the essential maths and science to help you continue into health or applied science courses at TAFE or university, this course is designed for you.

You will develop important study and communication skills such as how to present reports and read and write for science.

You will gain a well-rounded grasp of science by studying chemistry, biology, maths and physics subjects.

This course will also teach you how to use computers, develop your skills in using Microsoft Word, the internet and spreadsheets within a science context.

This course is also available to international students.

What further study options will I have?

You may wish to progress into further studies in the health science area. You may wish to apply for science degree courses with a mature-age entry in nursing, podiatry, myotherapy and speech pathology or diploma courses in laboratory and animal technology.

Can I apply?

  • You must be able to read, write, understand, and discuss printed information in English
  • You must be able to recognise numbers, and perform basic numeric calculations
  • You will also need the mathematical, algebra and literacy skills equivalent to the Certificate of General Education for Adults Level III
  • You must also demonstrate suitable aptitude and motivation to complete the course

Will my previous experience or study count?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) takes into account the knowledge and skills you’ve already gained through your previous education and work. This may be through formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work experience, and can earn you credit if relevant to your chosen course.
