What does this course involve?
If you want to learn audio engineering, this course will develop your audio production skills, provide initial training in musicianship and open up pathways to further education in music or employment within the audio production industry.
You can complete the Advanced Diploma of Music Industry (Technical Production) as a 2 year full time program incorporating the Certificate IV in Music Industry (Technical Production) in the first year. You can also take the course on a part time basis - contact the centre directly for more information.
You will gain an advanced understanding of audio electronic systems; familiarity with the use and function of equipment in a modern audio studio; the ability to use notation and sequencing programs including Pro Tools systems; the skills to set up and control sound for a live performance; keyboard skills to perform and demonstrate music examples or input musical data; recording and editing skills for a variety of media including hard disk, CD, DVD; and an understanding of both current and historical styles of commercial recording and modern audio and recording production techniques including the operation of studio sound suites for film post-production.
Additional units that do not appear in the current listing may be offered to enhance studies in this course.
What employment opportunities will I have?
There are many employment options within the entertainment and performance industry that include live performance, music media and recording opportunities. You might seek employment as a solo or band artist, writer, arranger and composer or develop your own music business.

What further study options will I have?
After you graduate you may be eligible to apply for entry into the Bachelor of Applied Music (Audio Production). Some credit transfer applies for suitable applicants.

- You must have successfully completed VCE (minimum English), or equivalent
- You should be able to demonstrate skills and aptitude in audio technology and engineering
How do I apply?
- To apply for a full time position in this course you must use the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process. Details of the VTAC application process are at www.vtac.edu.au and in the VTAC Guide, which is available from leading newsagents and libraries from August. If the Institute still has vacancies after the VTAC places have been offered, you will be able to apply directly to the Institute.
