Patrick McCauley

Flesh is now growing...

Flesh is now growing twice as fast as vegetation.
Vegetation does not kill flesh.
Water remains in exactly the same quantities
As it was in the beginning
As it will be in the end.
The word, it would seem, is definitely not
Becoming vegetation.
Evolution wants flesh
Because flesh wants consciousness.
The highly conscious will tell you,
In the filtered and coloured lights of their churches,
That it is they who seek the light,
But the trees of the surviving rainforests
Grow through even their poisoned atmospheres,
To one hundred times their original height
To gain the light
And one grass blade grows out of solid cement
In the deep laneway of the dark city night.
