Barrett 6 August 1995
He is dead, the quiet voice,
the wise counsellor,
the long lover,
the keeper of the thread,
the Prince of poets,
the battler against pain,
despair and loss.With measured breath
and eyes undimmed,
like a Viking
he floated on the vast waters,
leaving behind living words,
songs untrammelled,
dozens of foster-children
whose art he fostered:
his voice will never die;
his fame shall linger across our sky.
