Audition/Interview Preparation Workshop

Over the past year we have had numerous requests for more information on audition procedures for entry into performing arts courses. For some applicants this may be the first time that they have experienced an audition process, and this can be quite daunting.

In order for students to gain the most benefit out of the process, the Centre for Performing Arts will be holding an information day for prospective students on Monday 29 September 2008.

This will provide students with information about the best ways to prepare for their audition and what to expect. There is a small fee for the day of $50 to cover costs. It is anticipated that there will be a huge demand for places in the session, so applicants will be accepted on a 'first come, first served' basis.

Areas to be covered

  • Preparation for Audition — what sort of pieces to prepare
  • Sight reading techniques
  • Do I have to improvise? What should this demonstrate?
  • What about accompanists?
  • Overcoming nervous tension
  • Preparation for Interview — what sort of questions will be asked?
  • Preparation of folio — what should I bring?
  • What are the workshops for?
  • What to expect from the theory test — some working examples
  • What to expect from the aural test — some practical help
  • What happens after the audition/interview? How do I find out?
  • How are the decisions made about whether I am accepted into the course?
  • How will I be notified about my success or otherwise?
  • What is an A, B, C letter and what do they mean?

There will also be ample opportunities for questions during the day.

If you are contemplating entry into a music course at Box Hill Institute, this is a fantastic opportunity to get a head start with your preparations.
