Who we are

The Centre for Electrical and Refrigeration Trades is one of the leading and largest training providers of electrical and refrigeration apprentices in Australia and offers our apprentices the most up-to-date technology and facilities.

The current student population is in the vicinity of 500 apprentices making it the largest electrical/refrigeration training centre in the State of Victoria.

The Centre is located across two campuses within Box Hill Institute. The Electrical Facility is situated at Nelson Campus, while the Refrigeration Facility is situated at Elgar Campus.

What we do

The Centre for Electrical and Refrigeration Trades covers four major areas of study:

• Electrical
• Refrigeration/Airconditioning
• Security Systems
• Telecommunication Cabling

The Centre offers both the electrical and refrigeration pre-apprenticeship course for those people seeking an apprenticeship in the electrical and refrigeration trades. The course is extremely popular with young students just out of secondary college. The success rate of pre-apprentice course is highlighted by the fact that 75% of participants gain employment within their desired trade.

The Electrical Facility is a major training provider for the electrotechnology, telecommunications and electronic surveillance security systems industries.

The Refrigeration Facility is a major training provider for industries specialising in refrigeration, airconditioning and appliance servicing. Box Hill Institute is one of only two TAFE institutes to offer the refrigeration and airconditioning apprenticeships in the State of Victoria.
