| The curriculum of the Bachelor of Computer System (Networking) places more importance on hands-on experience than on theoretical knowledge; hence, our final-year students are keen to work on real-life, industry-based projects. Projects provide students with an opportunity to put into practice in a relevant ICT industry setting the knowledge and practical skills learned during the innovation and entrepreneurship stream of the course. Students undertake an ICT commercialisation project under the dual supervision of a staff member from the Centre for Information and Communications Technology and an industry partner. Project areasProjects in the following ICT areas would be valuable to industry and students: - Wireless Application
- Mobile Computing
- Network Infrastructure including VPN
- Network Security
- IP Telephony, VOIP
- Web Application.
Project timelinesStudents are available for industry projects during Semester 1 (from February to May) and Semester 2 (from July to October). Centre commitment to projectsStudents are able to finish their projects successfully with support from our highly skilled and experienced teaching staff. Being a Super Cisco Academy Training Centre we have experienced teaching staff for Networking (CCNA, CCNP, CCAI), Network Security, Wireless Networks and IP Telephony. We also have the capacity to implement software development skills for wireless application development, mobile computing or any other project which includes web technologies or applications, database development, and programming using Java or .Net platforms. The Centre of Information and Communications Technology appreciates the time industry partners give towards the project work, and the Centre will work to benefit your participation without any financial rewards. Student commitment to projectsIn collaboration with the industry partner and with supervision from our Centre staff, students undertake to: - demonstrate business and marketing plans with appropriate objectives and methods identify resources, including sources of finance
- execute the business plan using sound project management techniques
- evaluate the success of the project
- communicate the results in a short verbal presentation
- write a report of the project outcomes and applications, including consideration of the intellectual property developed during the project, protection of any intellectual property and consideration of any patent developments.
Industry client commitment to projectsAs a part of their commitment to the projects, industry partners should be able to provide resources in the form of staff and a project within our specialised area. Further, the industry project supervisor would be required to discuss and help students in designing project requirements, sign off on the project plan, and answer questions which may arise during the project work.
