| The vision of staff and students at Box Hill Institute is to raise sufficient funds to build a house for homeless youth. This initiative is an ideal opportunity to continue our commitment and support of youth and the local community. The Institute will utilise the student body across our various Centres to assist with the labour of building the house. The project will assist the Institute’s students with their training and encourage them to gain a sense of ownership of the project. This project will also encourage the students of Box Hill Institute to gain a sense of pride and ownership of the project; it will provide a feeling of giving to the community. Box Hill Institute, with support from local business and local Rotary Clubs, will raise $55,000 towards the cost of the materials for the house. The Institute will also provide apprentices and skilled trade for the labour in constructing the house, as well as a project supervisor to oversee the entire project. Welfare Agencies will target 12–16 year olds who are considered likely to become homeless. The maximum stay will be 12 months and the house will not be considered as any type of shelter or halfway house. It will provide a sense of responsibility and will develop life skills to underprivileged youth. |
